How to Use the Calculator

1. Setting Up Your Calculation

Step 1: Select your preferred unit system • Metric (mm, kg) - Default selection • Imperial (in, lbs) - For US standard measurements Step 2: Choose your material from the dropdown • Carbon Steel (7.85 g/cm³) - Default • Stainless Steel 304 (8.0 g/cm³) • Aluminum 6061 (2.7 g/cm³) • Custom - For materials not in the list
Note: When selecting "Custom" material, an additional field will appear where you can input the specific density of your material in g/cm³.

2. Inputting Dimensions

Outer Side Length: The external dimension of the square tube • Typical range: 10mm - 500mm (0.4in - 20in) Wall Thickness: The thickness of the tube walls • Must be less than half the side length • Typical range: 1mm - 25mm (0.04in - 1in) Length: The length of the tube section • In meters for metric, feet for imperial • Can be any positive value
Important: The calculator will display an error if: • Thickness is ≥ half of side length (would result in negative internal dimensions) • Any value is zero or negative • Invalid numbers are entered
